Development Hof van Egmont
CAAAP | Mechelen
The proposal for the reconversion of the Hof van Egmont site in Mechelen, developed by CAAAP in collaboration with Areal Architecten, BRUT, and Plant en Houtgoed, was submitted as part of a competition procedure for a conditional land sale, with the OCMW Mechelen as landowner. The 10,700 m² site is reimagined as a layered urban ensemble combining housing, offices, and student accommodation, where heritage, landscape, and contemporary architecture enter into dialogue. The new buildings subtly reference the site’s historical depth, with brick as a binding motif between old and new. A circular pavilion, to be owned by the City of Mechelen, acts as a public anchor within the plan. The project’s social value is reinforced through collaboration with De Stuyverij and the expansion potential of the Impact Factory, while a strong focus on affordable housing for starters ensures an inclusive and future-oriented urban quarter.
