Assisted Living Mayerhof
VZW Sint-Carolus Mayerhof | Mortsel
The Mayerhof assisted-living residences in Mortsel, together with the adjacent care centre, form a sustainable and caring campus — a coherent architecture of continuity. Completed in 2015, the three volumes add 40 dwellings to the site, standing as stately sentinels around a shared courtyard. The architecture is guided by light, encounter, and autonomy. Each unit features two to three façades with generous terraces and large openings that allow daylight to penetrate deep into the living spaces. The widened internal corridor acts as a social space, a subtle threshold between private and collective life. The warm brickwork and exposed concrete ring beams lend the buildings an earthy tactility, in dialogue with the light, reflective cladding of the care centre.
With an energy-efficient infrastructure including CHP and solar panels, Mayerhof forms a sustainable urban ensemble where care, living, and community together create an environment that embodies dignity and calm.
