At the end of a row of houses, the split-level dwelling in Wilrijk emerges as a sculptural volume that liberates itself from the constraints of the Flemish terraced typology. Within the limits of its urban framework, the house redefines space and perspective. The difference in ground level with the neighbouring property allows for the insertion of a semi-subterranean workspace, above which the living areas unfold across shifting levels and interior vistas. A gently folded roofline envelops the private rooms, reinforcing the building’s plastic and spatial expressiveness. Clad in profiled steel sheeting, the façade gives the house an autonomous presence, like a solidified fragment of matter in dialogue with its surroundings. This dwelling orchestrates compactness, light, and verticality — an architectural gesture that transforms a banal suburban edge into a space of abstract clarity and domestic depth.
