Care Residence De Faluintjes

The De Faluintjes Care Centre in Baardegem is subtly embedded within the village fabric, positioned on the threshold between residential ribbon and farmland. Rather than a single monolithic structure, the project is conceived as a cluster of smaller volumes, attuned to the grain of the village street. Through careful shifts in plan and section, the building settles into the park garden, opening itself towards the church, village, park, and fields. Inside, circulation unfolds as a sequence of spaces – living areas, loggias, and communal rooms – connecting daily life and care to the rhythm of the village. The park garden extends existing green structures and introduces wildflower meadows, fruit trees, and wadi ponds, forming a sensory landscape that celebrates the changing seasons. Selected from 17 competition entries, the project embodies a vision of care architecture on a human scale, where architecture, landscape, and community converge into a single, compassionate whole.
