Assisted Careliving Keysershoek
Gands nv + DCA | Mortsel
Commissioned by Gands, Areal Architecten and BUUR designed an integrated housing project within the inner block of Keysershoek in Kontich. The scheme combines 38 certified assisted-living units and 20 apartments across four carefully articulated volumes arranged around a collective green courtyard. Inspired by the woonerf principle, the ground level is conceived as a shared living environment where movement, encounter, and leisure coexist in balance. The project establishes an intergenerational residential setting in which independence and care complement one another. Subtle variations in height and roof form, along with setbacks and recessed terraces, bring rhythm and lightness to the façades. An underground level connects all volumes, keeping the ground surface open for a walkable, landscaped environment designed by BUUR. Through its material palette and human-scaled composition, Keysershoek emerges as a contemporary model of care-integrated living, where architecture, landscape, and community are seamlessly intertwined.
